Vietnam loses to Thailand in King's Cup
Bangkok, Dec 25: Hosts Thailand beat Vietnam 2-1 in the inaugural match of the 37th King's Cup football tournament in Bangkok Sunday.

Vietnam took the lead in the 36th minute through striker Thanh Binh.

However, Thailand restored parity in the very next minute when Sarayoot Chaikamdee split the two central defenders to head home.

In the 62nd minute Datsakorn Thonglao scored again for the Thais with a shot from the right flank which left the goalkeeper, Quang Huy, stranded.

The two sides created some clear chances in the remaining minutes but failed to convert any of them.

Vietnam coach Alfred Riedl said his side made too many mistakes and failed to live up to their potential.

"Vietnam are better than this," thanhniennews.com quoted the Austrian as telling reporters. "Our passing was very bad. I'm always asking my players to concentrate on the simple things, but they didn't."

In another match, Kazakhstan and Singapore played out a goalless draw.

The four teams will play a single round robin format with the top two entering next Saturday's final.

Vietnam takes on Kazakhstan on Tuesday and Singapore two days later.
