Thailand's Udomchoke takes Asian Games tennis men's title
Bangkok, Dec 18: Danai Udomchoke of Thailand upset top seed Lee Hyung-taik of Korea in straight sets to win gold in the men's tennis singles on Thursday. Danai won 7-5, 6-3 in a contest that lasted just an hour-and-a-half.

Cecil Mamiit of Philippines and Go Soeda of Japan took away the bronze medals.

The Korean fans were in early at the Khalifa Centre to root for their number one player and top seed of the tournament Lee Hyung-taik, in the men's singles final on thursday.

After some bold hitting early in the first set, the Thai player made the first move. Danai Udomochoke broke Lee while leading 6-5 and secured the first set, reports Zee News.

Udomchoke continued his strong baseline play and broke his opponent's serve in the fourth game of the second set to lead 3-1.

The Thai then closed out the game and won 7-5, 6-3 in an impressive fashion.

Much was expected off the 30 year-old Lee Hyung-taik, who never looked like changing gears at any stage of the game. He paid the ultimate price for it and lost in uninspiring fashion.

It was a great win for Thai fans who missed their favourite star Paradorn Srichaphan, the defending champion. But Udomchoke's success ensured the gold medal stayed with Thailand yet again.

Cecil Mamiit of Philippines and Go Soeda of Japan won the bronze medals for their respective countries.
