Infonet to expand Asia Pacific Investment
IT firm anticipating growth in Asia Pacific region to invest $200 million, demand for high speed 'backbone' increasing
Anticipating increased growth and liberalization policies, IT firm "Infonet" has moved forward with a $200 million investment in the Asia Pacific region.
 
Infonet feels the the accelerated growth of the Internet will fuel the demand for greater bandwidth and increased 'backbone' speed. The company also expects that telecommunications policies will be liberalized across the region in the very near future.
 
The company is also pointing to the interaction of voice and data over the Internet as an approaching phenomenon that will require increased transmission capacity.
 
Infonet is also planning to expand its business in specific countries such as Thailand. Thailand is seen by Infonet as a market with very high potential for the company.
 
The firm is currently working with the Communications Authority of Thailand on implementation of such new technologies as Internet protocol (IP) and synchronous transfer mode (ATM).
 
Infonet, founded in 1970, is a firm specializing in global networking with the goal of establishing seamless communication wold-wide using the latest in Web technology.
