A tale of two countries: Singapore rockets, Thailand slower to move toward e-commerce revolution
|
The Singapore government has announced a three-year program to put more of its citizens online. Everyone over five years old will get a free email address and a personal web site. At the same time, over in Thailand, things seem to be limping along. Boston Consulting Group said Thailand was among a small group of countries which are not joining the rest of the world, e-commerce wise. Citing a nonchalant approach by government, a population that is basically offline and a business community that is scratching its head about e-commerce, the report concludes, 'Not all markets in Asia are ready to embrace e-commerce; Thailand still lags behind.' Two e-commerce laws still languish in the Thai legislative process. If you are in Thailand and wish to join the new world of e-commerce, contact us at e-commerce@bizasia.com
