One third of sexual harassment victims in Hong Kong offices are men
Hongkong Feb 6: More than one third of sexual harassment victims in Hong Kong offices are men but most are too embarrassed to report their ordeals.

A survey by the territory's Civic Party and Equal Opportunities Commission today found that 45% of office workers interviewed believed that sexual harassment took place in their office at least occasionally.

In a study of 423 workers, nearly one in four employees said they had suffered sexual harassment themselves and of those, more than one third were men.

Civic Party legislator Mandy Tam described the results as surprising and said men who complained of sexual harassment were often targeted by female bosses.

However, while women were more likely to report their grievances, only two out of 33 men who said they had been sexually harassed had spoken to a superior about their situation.

Men in the traditional city of 6.8 million told researchers they would rather stay silent than face the ridicule that would come with lodging a complaint about sexual harassment.

Instances of sexual harassment reported by interviewees included taking inappropriate photographs, improper physical contact, pestering for dates and verbal remarks of a sexual nature, reports DPA.
